Pioneer of Texas in Wichita Falls

The steak was undercooked, the potato was cold, the toast was burned... but, the service was great and they remade the food. The atmosphere is rustic and relaxed.

This restaurant had the worst service and ticket time ever. 45 minutes for eggs and biscuits, grits not cooked, poached eggs hard, waitress slammed our plates down when we asked about our order. Nonsense.

Disappointed on the bland ChickenFried steak

The chicken fried steak was cold and had to be sent back to get heated up. The biscuits were pretty good this time. Not a fan of the gravy, but that way just be a personal preference. Service was decent and everything was clean.

Enjoy the chicken fried steak. Fries are too limp and not hot. Think they sit steaming waiting to be put on plates. When asking for ranch they give you a squeeze bottle, would much rather have ramekin so I could dip into it. Servers are very good.

This was our first time at this restaurant and we were definitely not impressed! The service and food was horrible. We didn't even stay to eat it. Every dish arrived cold, the okra was really greasy and soggy. I could smell a bad odor coming from the pork chops as soon as they placed them in front of me. I waited for the waitress to come back to the table but she never did. I had to get up and ask the front desk for a manager and the host had an attitude about it. I gave it a 1 star because the manager understood and comped everything, I even offered to pay for the soft drinks because we actually drank those except for the tea.

Went there twice and both times was a very bad experience. I ordered a fried catfish plate. The fish was under cooked, I don't know what kind if tarter they made but it had a big chunk of onion it and it tasted like ranch dressing. The ours was very old. They replaced the order and the food was still nasty

Service was great and very friendly! My pancakes were standard pancakes but others in the party raved about the breakfast burritos! I'll try that next time!

Hadn't been to Pioneer in a very long time. Food is still good, and they've fixed up the inside a lot. Ask for Trish when you go. She's the best!

Food was not good! We chose this restaurant based upon the 5 star rating and was very disappointed!

I do not recommend this place. The food was not very good. We found out why everything tasted like fish. They cook everything in the same fryer as the fried fish. That means chicken strips corn dogs french fries everything tastes like fish

Food was great!!!, cheese enchilada plate. Took home for left overs. 10.00 wow good price

My family has eaten at pioneer my entire life. Their food is a mix of down home southern and Mexican. They serve breakfast all day and it's, in my opinion, the best part of their menu. The queso and salsa are great. The wait staff is always welcoming and will always take care of you. Love this place.

We've been earing here since the 70's. Today we went in and ordered chicken crisp salad and egg I hope so done reads this. bacon omelet. Chicken was cold, omelet was cold and the gravy was nasty. Only good thing good was the tea. There are way too many places to eat that's 100% better. We will not be back. Some weeks we were in there 2-3times a week.

I hate to say I really don't understand this restaurant and why it's so popular, but it is popular. The food isnt bad its good, the service is fine, it's the atmosphere that I don't understand, but like I said, popular place, just "not my cup of tea" so to speak

I took my Mom to this Pioneer on a Sunday at noon to eat. I was craving some cheese enchiladas and she wanted the famous Chicken Fry. To start, i thought when you order mexican food at Pioneer , you always get chips and hot sauce to start your meal. I was wrong. This waitress never metioned chips. Brought our food, which was pretty fast after ordering , so i thought, ok well maybe she is just busy. So i asked for them and reluctly she brought them maybe 10 min later.I was so disapointed. They tasted like old grease, the enchiladas at best were lukewarm, chili tasted awful and Moms chicken fry was like the frozen kind. Gravy cold and no bread. I was very disappointed in the food and service.. I wont be going back. I would have given them 1/2 star but it was not a option. .would not recommend

Not the same old McBride's Pioneer since the firm was sold several years ago, but this one still deserves to be counted among the staples of casual dining. The "petite" chicken fried steak was more than enough for this reviewer, but I would like to see the "Giant"! Steak was lightly breaded and fork tender. It doesn't get much better than that. Service is top notch, as well. We'l be back.

Well..I googled for the best chicken fried steak in Wichita Falls. My son and I drove 5 1/2 hours to see his stationed at Fort Shepherd AFB. It is NOT among the best...my first bite tasted like a mouthful of flour. The chicken fried steak was tough...hard to chew. The only reason I have 2 stars is because the service, the okra and green beans were good.

Although the tomato soup was very good, the caesar salad was soggy and smothered in cheddar cheese . Would order somerhing different next time.

Still as it's always been. Have been going there since they opened.

Love Pioneer of Texas. Their food is always good 👌 and our waitress Susan was so attentive to our needs. Loved her sense of humor. Just be SO happy when the construction and paving of the parking lot and grounds is finished.

Wife and I both got the catfish for a late lunch. Good portions and flavor was very good. However, my pinto beans were on the cooler side of warm. Didn't leave any in the bowl though.

Good food and great customer service in a small town atmosphere.

Servers were great and very pleasant! Food was lackluster. First time in my life I've had a sirloin feature burnt grill lines I could taste while being barely cooked elsewhere, and blu-rare + cold inside. Loaded baked potato was lukewarm, buttered cabbage was barely warm. Wouldn't recommend.

Use to Love eating here but lately the food as been Really Greasy.Ordered chicken fried steak there was grease setting on top. Used a handful of napkins to soak it up.

One of the first places we are when we came to Wichita Falls and some of the best steaks we've ever had!!! The customer service was terrific too. We've since been back for breakfast, which was equally fantastic!!!

You would think during thePandemic with customers still calling in orders that they would be going above and beyond to make sure your order was correct ,as it should be at any time.Didn't happen in my case, sorry but just 1 star only because there's no zero

Have been coming here on occasion for years. Food has consistently delivered good taste. Service has consistently been great.

The enchiladas were good as always but the fries were undercooked. The staff was their usual pleasant selves.

Not satisfy with my gravy was on the bottom of my chicken fried steak waitress could have been better and felt rush as the waitress kept repeating herself that she was our cashier
